What is GrandFamily Village?

Stepping up to raise your grandchildren when they’re in need is not just a commendable act, it’s truly an act of love and dedication. As you navigate this unexpected chapter of life, it’s crucial to know you’re not alone.

You are why GrandFamily World exists! This community started with some musings in the summer of 2024. At first I thought I’d write a book, and then I started dreaming of connecting beyond the one-way flow from the pages of a book. You know… more interaction so we don’t feel so alone. I already knew the value of community – I had personally experienced peer-based support many times in my life… heck, I was a trained facilitator and certified community builder.

Sooooo… I created GrandFamily Village for the you’s and the me’s in the world – because I know how important and valuable it is to be with kindred souls… to be part of a real, supportive village built by and for grandparents raising their grandchildren. A place full of wisdom, strength, tradition, and shared care. This space is for all of us to join in friendship with others from around the world, wherever they are on their unique but similar journey.

This blog website was launched in 2024, founded and funded by a GrandFamily, and offers free access to the base services – and sustains itself with a very low sliding scale membership fee. We are global and autonomous, with no affiliations with any agency or government sponsored organization. I strive to keep this space as barrier free as possible

GOOD BYE FACEBOOK Over the years I have been part of several Facebook groups and have experienced wonderful connection with others like me. However, I don’t know about you but I feel the FB vibe has become icky these days: the noise of pushy algorithms spewing intrusive ads is annoying and distracting. Meta seems to be constantly adjusts their privacy policies and the increase of the profile cloning and fear of hackers is just too much for many users. Folks like you and me are leaving Facebook and in search of something else. What else is there???

GrandFamily Village was launched in 2025, uniquely designed to bring together grandparents who are taking on the incredible responsibility of raising their grandchildren. Together we discover practical advice, heartfelt insights, and maybe have a laugh or shed a tear. Share your story if and when you’re ready. You’re in great company with other grandfamilies who get it.

As a community we understand each other’s unique challenges and rewards that come with raising someone else’s child. The delicate dance of providing care, comfort and safety to our grandchildren, while navigating challenging systems and extended family relationships. It’s a place to find support and meaningful connections so that we can grow stronger, feel confident, and embrace the beauty of our unique families.
